PERMANENCY CENTERS

Permanency Centers

The Permanency Center is a non-governmental organization whose major objective is to investigate, evaluate and develop a permanency plan for every institutionalized OVC so they will have the opportunity to live in a safe and permanent family according to the UN Convention on the Rights of Child.

MODEL FAMILY

Model Family

The Institute will seek to create programs that provide a family-like environment for orphans who will never experience a permanent family.

PREVENT ABANDONMENT

Prevent Abandonment

Where possible the Institute will work in partnership to prevent the abandonment of a child in the first place by developing programs and educational materials.

TRAINING AND OUTREACH

Training and Outreach

The Orphan Institute will seek to build in-country social work capacity and highlight the centrality of the family for child development through a variety of training and outreach activity.  We will provide training and workshops that will complement existing social work programs and train para-social workers to improve case management and best interest determinations for OVCs.

A PLACE TO CALL HOME

A Place to Call Home

It is suggested that a permanency approach to addressing the dire plight of OVCs, while not the only part, is a key response component of both national governments and the international community.

The long-term impact of making these kinds of determinations for children living without the care of a family and acting to find an appropriate solution for each child is enormous.  Further, this work is easily measurable by tracking the cases of children processed and can provide the desirable combination of permanent solutions and measurable progress in one program.

This approach is also sustainable because it offers permanent solutions for specific children in need and also helps build the capacity of child welfare organizations and national governments to process and manage the cases of OVC who fall under their authority to ensure that they have permanent families in the future; it ensures they always have a place to call “home”.
